Promised Land is a social justice documentary that follows two tribes in the Pacific Northwest: the Duwamish and the Chinook, as they fight for the restoration of treaty rights they've long been denied. In following their story, we look at a larger problem of the way that the government and society still looks at treaty rights and tribal sovereignty.
The film is being put together by Tall Firs Cinema, a film company based in Seattle, WA. Vasant and Sarah Samudre are the two filmmakers who comprise it and together they are the film's directors, writers, cinematographers, editor and producer. Sponsored by San Francisco Film Society, working in cooperation with both the Duwamish and Chinook tribal councils, and receiving generous help from the community, Promised Land is currently in post-production.
